1. Clusters of Chom Poo Nam, Krabi
The clusters of Chom Poo Nam are in the area of the
swamp upstream tourist attraction in Tha Pom Khlong Song Nam,
Khao Khram Subdistrict, Mueang Krabi District in Krabi Province. The
clusters are over 130 years, growing in a 500-meter-long way. It is
a natural forest. It has been told that “Tha Pom” is named after
Toh Khru Pom, who first settled in Ban Nong Jik 130 years ago. The
swamp forest surrounding this area is overgrown. The ground is
full of tree roots and ground roots making it difficult to walk. It is
believed that at the watershed of Khlong Tha Pom near the pond
in the middle of the forest, there is an albino crocodile which is the
animal of the lord of forest. Those who invade or destroy the forest
will suffer a misfortune. Children are prohibited from approaching
the forest. If there is a need to collect fresh water for consumption
in the dry season or go on a boat to fish, bringing food containing
pork into the forest is prohibited. Also, taking a bath on Saturday
and Tuesday is prohibited. No one could explain the reason why
such prohibition occurs.
Khlong Tha Pom has a special feature. That is, salt water
and fresh water are converged. This covers an area of about 300
rai, making it a small ecosystem. Apart from being a junction of
two water sources, it is a converged point of three forests including
mangrove forest and black mangrove forest. The mangrove plant
trees coexist with Chom Poo Nam harmoniously and become a
“Plant Genetic Protection Area”in the Plant Genetic Conservation
Project under the Royal Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess
Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. It is a famous tourist attraction of Krabi
and currently under the supervision of Khao Khram Subdistrict
Administrative Organization, Khao Khram Subdistrict, Mueang Krabi
District, Krabi Province.
