Mangrove Ecosystem Group in Prachuap Kiri Khan Province
is one of the abundant mangrove forest areas of the province,
covering the area of more than 1,400 rai, divided into two areas as
follows.
Area 1: located in Pran Buri Forest Park, on the north side
of the Pran Buri River. It has an area of approximately 500 rai. It is
the original natural mangrove forest ecosystem with the age of over
150 years. The trunk has a circumference between 0.25 - 1.20 meters
and the height between 10 - 25 meters. It is an important natural
nursery and aquaculture center. In 1996, His Majesty King Bhumibol
Adulyadej The Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit visited Pran Buri
Forest Park, Where Both of them saw the deteriorated forest, so they
had the idea to rehabilitate the forest and preserve the remaining
forest area. Currently, the “Pranburi Pak Nam Forest Development
under the Royal Initiative Project” is carried out to manage the forest
to return its abundance.
Area 2: located on the south side of the Pran Buri River
in the Sirinat Rajini Ecosystem Learning Center covering the area of
approximately 900 rai. The largest mangrove tree in the forest is more than
80 years with the circumference about 0.60 - 0.70 meters and the height
of 12 - 14 meters. There are the mangrove trees gracefully planted by His
Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Royal Highness Princess
Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in this area.
Currently, it is under the supervision of Pran Buri Forest
Park and the Sirinat Rajini Mangrove Ecosystem Learning Center, Moo
1 and Moo 2, Pak Nam Pran Subdistrict, Pran Buri District, Prachuap
Khiri Khan Province.
