Baan Tor-pae Community Museum

โ€œTouring within the community and perceiving the Thai-Yaiโ€™s culture, way of life
and wisdomโ€

The name of Tor-pae did not exist in the past. The land is plentiful, very suitable for farming
especially ploughing and gardening. Later, there were migrants from other villages who came along to
make a living. A village was set up in Baan Luang. The harvest was abundant, especially rice. However,
the transportation was not convenient as there was no place to sell rice. Therefore, the villagers decided
to cut bamboo and tied them together into a raft to transport rice to sell at Muang Yom (Amphur Mae
Sariang), floating the raft down-stream. Since this rafting became more and more practised, the village was
named Baan Tor-pae since 1921.

The Narration

Tours were organised within the community to witness the Thai-Yaiโ€™s culture, way of life and
wisdom. The tourists would visit Wat Tor-pae, where there are curtains adorned with rubies of more than
150 years old; the folk wisdom of ancient Doyvieng relics; hat-weaving (Kooptai), the Thai-Yai peopleโ€™s
houses (Herntai), the iron-hitting folk wisdom and the roaming about the forest to see nature along the
route of World War 2, for instance.

The Moral Value - the Owner of the Culture

The Tor-pae village has set up a museum building in the community gathering priceless historical,
cultural, traditional, folk wisdom items from the past unto the present, that are on the verge of
disappearing. The museum is where the children and the Baan Tor-pae community, students, the general
public and interested tourists would come to learn what has happened in the past in the community, in
order to relay, pass on and preserve.

Letโ€™s look for the charm of cultural traveling together

The valuable cultural evolution is to cultivate the love in oneโ€™s own birthplace, the love in oneโ€™s
own local culture and promote it to the general public so that they could pass it on. The management
process of the museum, the promotion and public relations of the museum are carried out so that the
museum is known among the general public as well as impressing them.
