                                               Letter of The Department of Cultural Promotion






                            The Department of Cultural Promotion under The Ministry of Culture organizes the Trees of Siam Project
                 to gather the data of 88 perennial plants in Thailand that are older than 100 years. Every tree is significant to

                 communities and the country. They are not only valued in physical aspects that can be visually observed such as
                 being used for residential construction, food or paper making but also have infinite benefits as different parts of
                 such trees can be used as Thai Traditional Medicines for disease prevention and treatment. Some of the trees are

                 related to community’s and the country’s history while others express long legends related to the local culture and
                 traditions.  These trees grow in prominently cultural areas or important places which are all related to intangible

                 cultural heritage. This enables us to learn cultural inheritance through the trees of Siam : treasures of the Land
                 in this book.
                            This book,  The Tree of Siam: Treasures of the Land, has been completed with comprehensive content,

                 gorgeous photos and precious poetry by the national artists and the project experts of The Tree of Siam: Treasures
                 of the Land who jointly selected 88 perennial plants from the exploration and preparation of tree data  provided by

                 the provincial cultural offices, the provincial cultural councils, the non-governmental organizations, the government
                 agencies and the public in the areas, Ultimately, the 88 valued trees are archived. The Department of Cultural
                 Promotion would like to extend the greatest appreciation to all sectors as mentioned.
