The Woven Bamboo Handicraft Promotion Center, Phanat Nikhom District, Chonburi Province has
been set up in the year 1978 until the present. At the beginning in 1978, the Foundation for the Promotion
of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit had a project to
promote and conserve woven bamboo handicraft with exquisite workmanship with the intention of traditional
arts and crafts conservation as originally local wisdom. Additional intention was to help manage the
incomes of craftsmen so as to have a better quality of life and be able to transfer the wisdom to young
generations in order not to be lost from the original locality. Therefore, Khun Pranee Boriboon (the then
wife of mayor of Phanat Nikhom Municipality) was burdened with this operation by gathering the craftsmen
and work pieces in Phanat Nikhom District, forming a work group at her own house. Until present, Komkrish
Boriboon, son, has inherited the work and has developed the woven bamboo handicraft promotion center
for providing knowledge about woven bamboo handicraft, gathering the woven bamboo craftsmen and
producing, inheriting fine woven works from generations to generations to be known and accepted widely
both domestically and abroad.
