โ€Arts and Crafts Group that Continues Royal Initiativeโ€
Ban Torn Community Enterprise Group at Khok Kien Sub-District, Muaeng District, Narathwas was
established on November 18, 2009 by Mrs. Jepuror Binhama. Since the community has plenty of coconut
trees and the group has received coconut-processing equipment from the government, the group initiated
the idea to increase the value of coconut and to reduce unemployment among community members.
Spicy rice salad was created as roasted coconut is an important ingredient. At first, there was a meeting of
members group to collect 2 coconuts for 3 consecutive days to be used as working capital. Each member
was collected 2 baht for secured money. Villagers still did not know that the community enterprise group
was established so there were only a few of members causing negative results in expense account. The
group did not gain any income for 6 months. Later, the group had more members and therefore had the
first income in April 2010. Nowadays, the group produces and distributes many kinds of products such as
ready-to-eat spicy rice salad, cold-pressed coconut oil, coconut oil soap, shampoo and coconut milk sold
both within the country and exported to a large number of countries. Thus, the community enterprise
group is famous and earns more income.
