 Han District

โ€œThe Archaeological Site Announced by UNESCO as Ban Chiang World Heritageโ€

Ban Chiang community is where Ban Chiang archaeological site is located. Ban Chiang World
Heritage Site is the residence of Thai people with ethnic characteristics called Tai Puan people (Lao Phuan).
Their ancestors migrated from Chiang Khwang in Lao Peopleโ€™s Democratic Republic and settled down in
Ban Chiang 200 years ago. They have inherited a unique form of culture and a unique way of life, such as
rituals, beliefs, costumes, food, utensils and language used in communication. This strengthens cultural
style of Tai Puan people in Ban Chiang and a unique identity is maintained.
The cultural identity of the Tai Puan people continues has been conserved due to the strength
of the community that cherishes their cultural heritage. They established a local museum at Wat Sa Kaew,
Ban Chiang Sub-District, Nong Han District, Udon Thani to be a cultural learning center to conserve and
disseminate stories and the history of Tai Puan in Ban Chiang to people, children, students and tourists who
are interested in. In 2012, Ban Chiang National Museum supported the establishment of a local museum
at Wat Sa Kaew. As a result, the exhibition about the way of life and the history of Tai Puan people in Ban
Chiang was organized inside the local museum building.
Wat Sa Kaew Local Museum was moved to J-Bic Center because the exhibition building was very
old. Since renovation would not be worth construction cost, the Museum was moved to J-Bic Center and
its name was changed to Tai Phuan Ban Chiang Museum. Ban Chiang Sub-District Municipality has supported
the budget of 100,000 baht and Ban Chiang Sub-District donated some money.
Tai Phuan Ban Chiang Museum was officially opened on May 26, 2017. Mr. Kitsayapong Siri, the
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, presided over the opening ceremony of Tai Phuan Ban
 Chiang Museum.
At present, Tai Puan Ban Chiang Museum is a cultural learning source for the community by
providing services to tourists and communities who wish to learn the way of life of Tai Phuan Ban Chiang
from the past to the present. It is the place exhibiting the community background, important persons of
the community and the community way of life. The Museum has been well responded by tourists.
