Khon performance : "The Kidnap of Sita" episode

(a five-piece band) which normally consists of 5 pieces of musical
instruments (Ranat, Khong Wong Yai, Pi Nai, Klong That and
Taphon) but for performing Khon includes the addition of the โ€œKrongโ€, which is
a percussion instrument made of bamboo used to give musical cues to the ac-
tors when marching and โ€œMai Ta Khapโ€, a personal
stick of the โ€œKhon clownโ€ character used for making rhythmic sounds.
Classical performing arts like Khon and Nang used Wong Pi Phat Khrueang
Ha as their orchestra until the early Rattanakosin period when Wong Pi Phat
Khrueang Khu (twelve-piece band) and Wong Pi Phat Khrueang Yai (fif-
teen-piece band) were developed. Since then the orchestra accompanying
Khon performances have changed.
