Memorial Museum
โ€Reminiscence of Past Prosperity of the Payao people via their tools and
equipmentโ€
Phra Kru Paijitdhammaporn, the abbot of Wat Chiangthong and administrator of the Memorial
Museum Learning Centre, has collected various objects, daily-use appliances, consumer goods, childrenโ€s
toys since 1980. The Payao people found these collected items useful and, therefore, donated some more
till there was a sufficient amount to set up a Learning Centre exhibiting the way of life of the people in the
past in Payao Province, how they earn their living.
The Narration
Exhibitions of collected items in the past are organised for the villagers and interested persons to
visit in remembrance of the items used in the past that can no longer be seen in the present days. This
Memorial Museum, apart from collecting items of the past, assembles also stories of the peopleโ€s existence
to the full, satisfactorily recalling the past prosperity of the Payao people. Apart from collecting items of
the past, Phra Kru Paijitdhammaporn also compiled a complete portfolio of the famous movie star, Mitr
Chaibuncha including movie posters, pictures as well as stories about him.
The Moral Value - the Owner of the Culture
A new format of arranging items of the past and cultural heritage in the museum has been developed,
giving its own identity, attracting visitors who come to study. A big variety of activities are organised at the
cultural courtyard in order to relay the knowledge to the villagers, children and other people by demonstrating
the folk wisdom of the elderly people in the community like basketry, Thai massage, local music :
Khao (northern poetry), Choy and Sor. To preserve their own cultural heritage, they arrange cooking
contests of local food, the Kard-Mua-Krua-Lang (all-day market), encouraging the villagers to sell their
cultural products, generating revenue for them.
Letโ€s look for the charm of cultural traveling together
A new format in displaying items of the past and cultural heritage in the museum was developed,
having its own identity together with activities in the courtyard to relay the knowledge to the people and
the children, demonstrating the folk wisdom of the elderly people in the community like basketry, Thai
massage, local music performance - Khao, Choy and Sor. People bring along their cultural products to sell.
