Baan Wat Choltee-nimit Local Museum
โ€Local Cultural Performing Arts - Ancient Objectsโ€
Than Phra Kru Choltee-dhammasathit, the abbot of Wat Choltee-nimit, Tambon Bang-Naam
-Jued, Amphur Langsuan, Chumporn Province, has set up big shadow plays to be performed in promoting
the boat race, usurping the flag, winning the plaque or the Royal Trophy. It is a cultural heritage of the
Langsuan river basin for the past 35 years, preserving the local shadow play performing arts. It is named
the Big Shadow Play at Wat Choltee-nimit, the only one in the 14 southern provinces.
The Narration
It is a place where the ancient tools and equipment are displayed. They are proofs of the way
of life of the people in the olden days. The people in the community and the villagers of Tambon
Bang-Naam-Jued, jointly donated these items to be kept at the local museum of Wat Choltee-nimit. There
are more than 300 pieces of ancient objects, tools and equipment that indicate the way of life of Tambon
Bang-Naam-Jued people. It is a learning centre for children, young people, students and interested persons
in Amphur Langsuan as well as in other Amphurs in Chumporn and other neighboring provinces.
The Moral Value - the Owner of the Culture
Mr Montien Songrat, former headman of Moo 1, Tambon Bang-Naam-Jued, gave continuous support
and care, developing 10 new shadow play puppets while Phra Kru Choltee-dhammasatit, abbot of Wat
Choltee-nimit, gave a financial support of THB 20,000 - allowing all these 10 new puppets to be kept in
the Piya-dhamma Building. He also bought 3 glass cabinets to store the ancient items in the Piya-dhamma
Building. Hence, the museum.

It is a learning centre relaying the knowledge to the people in the community and the general
public, giving them the opportunity to study history, the cultural arts and the local heritage, making them
think of the cultural value and the importance which lead to the preservation and adding value to the
cultural capital of the community on the foundation of the communityโ€s culture, ready to welcome tourists
and interested people to come to study and learn.
