MUKDAHAN

The Ancient Phoo-Thai, Baan Karn-Luang-Dong, Museum

โ€œBasketry, wooden trappers, metal, ancient fabrics, Balan books and earthenwareโ€

The ancestors of Baan Karn-Luang-Dong, Tambon Nong-Kan, Amphur Dong-Luang, Mukdahan Province,
migrated from Muang Wang, Muang Ang-Kham, the Peopleโ€™s Democratic Republic of Laos, with the Poo-Thai
people of Amphur Nong-Soong. At first, they occupied, for about 50 years, the forest fields which are about
4 kilometres from the village. Then, they moved to the edge of Huay Kun-bon which is the location of the
village. However, they still named their village โ€œKarn Luangโ€, just like the first name of the village. The
local people are mostly the Poo-Thai tribe, Buddhist and the local dialect is Poo-Thai. Their popular family
name is Sukhumpa, Gnao-Osa and Chua-Wangkham. They take part in important customs and traditions
as well as the annual traditional merit events as per the Buddhist belief. The Poo-Thai people have faith in Buddhism.
Wherever they are, they would invite monks to be present at religious rites. The villagers, therefore, have
a place to carry out their merit-making activities following their faith.

The Narration

The identity of this museum is the basketwork, woodwork, trappers, metal, ancient fabrics, Balan
books and earthenware. All these are related to the way of life of the Poo-Thai people who came to dwell
at Baan Karn-Luang-Dong.

The Moral Value - the Owner of the Culture

The Poo-Thai people have a plain way of life and are self-reliant. They have the workmanship in
handicraft, producing their own utensils in daily-life necessities. When developments occur, the old tools
and equipment are no longer in use and are therefore put together at Wat Bhodi-Srikaew.

Letโ€™s look for the charm of cultural traveling together

It is a learning centre teaching moral to the young generation, a relaxation place for the general
public, a place for the community to hold religious ceremonies and festivals and a place for governmental
meetings. The traditions, culture and environmental preservation in the community, the informal education,
the activities of the Heat-Sipsong tradition, a local tradition, are promoted for the knowledge of the community.
